Understanding Teligent's Broadband Fixed Wireless Technology

Wireless Network Architecture
Teligent's network uses microwave technology to offer T1 to OC-Level connectivity. Speed to market is a unique advantage of fixed wireless technology, as it allows for rapid design and implementation. Many ILECs (Incumbent Local Exchange Carrier) are at capacity, and cannot handle the demand for additional bandwidth without building extensive new facilities. With a fixed wireless architecture, Teligent can bypass the ILEC to provide carriers with the access their customers need. The technology also allows for custom build applications with T1, DS3 and OC-Level links to address private line, Internet access and building access needs.

Radio Link Performance
Teligent 's fixed wireless networks are designed for greater than 99.995% end-to-end reliability. This is comparable to carrier-class reliability of many other types of telecommunications networks, including those that do not utilize wireless technology.

Link distances are engineered based on geographic weather patterns and terrain. Over 30 years of weather data are used in conjunction with sophisticated radio network design models to ensure optimum performance. To date, Teligent's fixed wireless networks have withstood torrential rain, gale force winds and earthquakes as well or better than landline networks.

Network Security
Licensed spectrum transmission uses proprietary and customized equipment and protocols ensuring that over-the-air security breaches (such as eavesdropping and service theft) are almost impossible. The very narrow beam width of Teligent's point-to-point radios requires that a receiving antenna has line of sight and is aligned at a precise angle to the transmitting antenna. Given that the antennas will be placed near the edge of the rooftops, it would be almost impossible for someone to intercept the signal. Even if a trespassing receiver intercepted the path of the link, the interceptor would need knowledge of the proprietary symbol encoding, frame structure, FEC algorithm and scrambling pattern of the radios to recover data. All data can be encrypted using DES with a key size of up to 128 bit across the link.

Network Management
Teligent owns and operates a state-of-the-art, 24x7 Network Operations Center (NOC) to constantly monitor and manage the health of the network. Individual network elements send periodic status and performance summary statistics to the NOC for analysis. Through multiple channels, Teligent's network is constantly monitored to ensure the highest level of quality.
